Many killed in Kano as police clash with Islamic movement.

No fewer than twenty persons including a policeman lost their lives in Kano on Monday as men of the Kano State Police Command clashed with members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN.

Eyewitnesses said that trouble started around Tamburawa on the outskirts of Kano metropolis when the police tried to disrupt a Shiite protest march said to be heading towards Zaria.

The resultant violence led to the death of a policeman and several of the protesters.

Well armed anti-riot police officers have been deployed in the area while the Kano-Zaria road has been cordoned off.
