Read the English translation of PMB's Hausa Sallah message

“I am immensely grateful to God for his mercy in guiding us successfully to conclude another Ramadan fast. My greetings to all Nigerian Muslims and our brother Christians on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr.
May the lessons of Ramadan namely; piety, self-denial, prayers and generosity to the poor and needy be with us for all time.
I, again, appeal to all Nigerians to avoid reckless statements or actions against our fellow countrymen. We should all resolve to live in peace and unity in our great country, which is the envy of many less endowed nations.”

Eid-el-Fitr: DSS detains 2 over planned terrorist attacks

Plans by suspected terrorists to unleash attacks across several Nigerian cities during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations have been nipped in the bud according to the Department of State Services, DSS.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja on Friday, Mr. Nnana Nnochiri who is a director at the agency said that the suspects had planned to attack soft targets like markets, public parks, public processions, recreation centres  and places of worship in Kano , Sokoto, Kaduna and Maiduguri
during the Sallah festivities.

“In the past few weeks, this service has uncovered a sinister plot by terrorist elements to stage series of coordinated attacks using explosives on different cities across the country.

“Their aim was to hit on soft targets such as markets , public parks, public processions , recreation centres , as well as worship centres especially the Eid Praying grounds and other densely populated areas during the forthcoming Eid-el- Fitr Sallah celebrations,” he said.

He said that two suspects identified as Yusuf Adamu and Abdulmumini Haladu were arrested in connection with the foiled attacks in the early hours of Friday, in Sokoto, adding that they were to command the attacks in Kano .

Nnochiri noted that his men had earlier arrested the suspected facilitator of the Kano operation named Bashir Mohammed.

God will reward whistle blowers ~ Bishop

According to Bishop Martins Uzoukwu of the Catholic Diocese of Minna, Niger State, those who expose treasury looters will not only be rewarded by the government but also by God.

“God will reward any person or group of people who offer information that can lead to the recovery of our hard-earned public funds.”

While speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN in Minna on Saturday, Bishop Uzoukwu praised the government for offering cash rewards to whistle blowers as the gesture would get more Nigerians to identify with the fight against corruption.

“Nigerians should complement the effort of the Federal Government by coming out with the required intelligence information that can lead to the recovery of stolen public funds,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to "see the fight against corruption as a national sacrifice."
