Kano State government urges wealthy men to take more wives

The government of Kano State has called on academics and other wealthy men in the state who have only one wife to take more wives.

The Kano State Hisbah Board, KSHB’s Assistant Commander on Special Duties, Mr. Nahabani Usman made the call on Saturday, while announcing the planned destruction of more than a million bottles of beer confiscated from traders within the state capital.

“I am appealing to professors or wealthy individuals , who are interested in having more wives to come forward and collect the forms for registration to participate in the mass wedding,” he said.
He added that he wanted such interested persons to take part in the forthcoming mass wedding of widows and divorcees being sponsored by the state government.

Train Crushes Suicidal Man In Abuja

A middle-aged man was on Monday crushed to death by a train at the Phikwore Area of Kubwa, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the unidentified man left a suicide note before lying down on the rail tracks waiting to be crushed by the fast approaching  train.

NAN also reported that the incident happened around 12:45pm, a kilometre away from the Kubwa Railway Station.

In the suicide note which he left in a bag containing his clothes, the man apologised for his inability to take care of his family.

“Please forgive me for I do not have funds to take care of you.’’ he wrote.

According to NAN, the body of the deceased was yet to be identified as of the time of going to press.

Confirming the report, the spokesman for Nigerian Railway Corporation, Mr Niyi Ali, said that  investigations had begun into the incident to unravel the motive behind the suicide.

“We will like to find out what will warrant a young man to lay in wait on a train track to take his life."
