FG expects better economic outlook for 2nd half of 2016

OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT PRESS RELEASE:
FG EXPECTS BETTER ECONOMIC OUTLOOK FOR SECOND HALF OF 2016

*2nd quarter figures indicate further growth in Agric, solid mineral sectors:
*Better than IMF estimates
*Reveals highest increase in share of investment in GDP since 2010
The just released GDP figures for the 2016 second quarter by the National Bureau of Statistics while confirming a temporary decline, has also indicated an hopeful expectation in the country's economic trajectory.
Besides the growth recorded in the agriculture and solid mineral sectors, the Nigerian economy in response to the policies of the Buhari presidency is also doing better than what the IMF had estimated with clear indications that the second half of the year would be even much better.
The Buhari presidency will continue to work diligently on the economy and engage with all stakeholders to ensure that beneficial policy initiatives are actively pursued and the dividends delivered to the Nigerian people.
The following statement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Dr. Adeyemi Dipeolu on the latest NBS report:
"The just recently released data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that Gross Domestic Product declined by -2.06% in the second quarter of 2016 on a year-on-year basis.
A close look at the data shows that this outcome was mostly due to a sharp contraction in the oil sector due to huge losses of crude oil production as a result of vandalisation and sabotage.
However, the rest of the Q2 data is beginning to tell a different story. There was growth in the agricultural and solid minerals sectors which are the areas in which the Federal Government has placed particular priority.
Agriculture grew by 4.53% in the second quarter of 2016 as compared with 3.09% in the first quarter. The metal ores sector showed similar performance with coal mining, quarrying and other minerals also showing positive growth of over 2.5%. Notably also, the share of investments in GDP increased to its highest levels since 2010, growing to about 17% of Gross Domestic Product.
The manufacturing sector though not yet truly out of the woods is beginning to show signs of recovery while the service sector similarly bears watching.
Nevertheless, the data already shows a reduction in imports and an increase in local produced goods and services and this process will be maintained although it will start off slowly in these initial stages before picking up later.
The inflation rate remains high but the good news is that the month-on-month rate of increase has fallen continuously over the past three months.
Unemployment remains stubbornly high which is usually the case during growth slowdowns and for reasons of a structural nature.
The picture that emerges, barring unforeseen shocks, is that the areas given priority by the Federal Government are beginning to respond with understandable time lags to policy initiatives. Indeed, as the emphasis on capital expenditure begins to yield results and the investment/GDP numbers increase, the growth rate of the Nigerian economy is likely to improve further.
As these trends continue, the outlook for the rest of the year is that the Nigerian economy will beat the IMF prediction of -1.8% for the full year 2016.
The IMF had forecasted a growth of -1.8% for 2016, however the economy is performing better than the IMF estimates so far. For the half year it stands at -1.23% compared to an average of -1.80% expected on average by the IMF.
What is more, it is likely the second half will be better than the first half of 2016. This is because many of the challenges faced in the first half either no longer exist or have eased.

If you won't fight Avengers, stop fighting Boko Haram - Ango Abdullahi

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo's Adviser on Food Security, Prof Ango Abdullahi, on Tuesday, told the Federal Government to fight the Niger Delta Avengers or leave Boko Haram alone.

Speaking at a book launch tagged ;"The life and times of Umaru Turakin Bauchi at 2015 and Boko Haram: The charade versus the reality at 2016" in Abuja, Abdullahi said that the activities of the Avengers constituted the greatest threat to the nation's security.

"If we find truly that we cannot peacefully develop this country, the solution is to go our separate ways, why not?

“Even now, we are not happy with the kind of standard of security that is being applied in the country. If you are not going to fight Avengers, you should stop fighting Boko Haram," he said.

Rio 2016 Olympics: Dalung briefs President Buhari

President Buhari on Tuesday received briefing from Minister of Youth and Sports, Comrade Solomon Dalung  at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

After the briefing, Dalung had a chat with State House correspondents during which he told those calling for his head over the abysmal performance of the Nigerian contingent to the Olympics that he is not the problem with Nigerian sports.

"We need to go back to the grassroots and groom talents for future competitions.

"I am not the problem of Nigerian sports because abysmal performance predates my appointment,” he said.

He explained that he was at the State House to brief the President about the outing of Team Nigeria at the Rio Olympics.

"It is normal if somebody sends you on an errand, when you accomplish that task you first and foremost brief that person before you go public to start talking to outsiders.

"So, all I did was to brief the President on our performance, the challenges we had, the progress we made because in 2016 Nigeria was celebrated.

"These two (Nigerian) athletes (Aruna Quadri and Ukogu) were recognized internationally in Rio; that happening to Nigeria is an achievement.

"And I also requested from him the support for getting a date to organize a reception for our dream team that has gotten a bronze medal for us.

"He (President Buhari) also appreciated our performance and thanked us for doing the country proud and keeping the flag flying. He challenged us to do more for the country to move forward in sports,” he said.

Guide to earning on empowr

You earn when your posts get viewed.

Your earnings increase when more people view your posts, so you want your posts shared as much as possible.

The more people you "close the loop" with, the more people share your posts (and the more you earn).

What is "closing the loop" and how do I do it?

"Closing the loop" with someone means sharing some of their posts (which helps them earn).

To close the loop with someone, follow the instructions inside the loop:

  • As you can see, to close the loop with Manuela, you share 2 of her posts.
  • After you do that, you (meaning your profile and posts) will be presented to her so she can close the loop back with you (by sharing your posts) which helps you earn.

The moment you close the loop with someone, you've made it their turn to help you earn. (They won't be presented to you again, until they close the loop back with you).

Summary: The more people you "close the loop" with, the more people will share your posts and the more you earn.

How to maximize your earnings

QUESTION: For best results, who are the best people for me to close the loop with?

ANSWER: Those most likely to close the loop back with you.

QUESTION: Well, then, who's most likely to close the loop back with me?

ANSWER: The next person presented to you, after you click right (or on mobile, click "Next" or swipe left).

Summary: For best results and to maximize your earnings, instead of closing the loop with random people, click right or "Next" to be presented with the next best person for you.

Bonus tips:

Don't fall out: Have you noticed that only people are presented to you that have posted recently? If you don't post anything new, you'll stop being presented to anyone. So ABP (Always Be Posting) to make sure you are always being presented to others.

Closing the loop gets you seen: People aren't presented to you again until they've closed the loop back with you. On your end, that means that until you close the loop with someone, you won't be shown to them again. So try to close the loop with each person presented before moving on.

Location accuracy matters: In the coming months, you'll notice people shown to you will get closer and closer to you geographically as more people join empowr. This will enable you to meet more of them in-person. It will also enable you to receive services from them (paying with your empowr earnings) and totally wipe out shipping costs when you buy products from them.

So why not accelerate the process by inviting people you know? You earn $20 for each completed account if you're the first to invite them.

Summary: Make sure your location is accurate or you'll be missing out on much of the value from the trusted relationships you're building.

The end goal

Your goal in empowr should be to have a thousand people in your circle that you can trust to help you earn.

empowr means freedom: Take a moment to imagine having a thousand people in your circle, with each of them also having, on average, a thousand people in their circle:

  • You'll have one million people within only two degrees of separation from yourself; and a billion people within only three degrees — with each person earning daily, just like you are, and able to purchase with just one click.
  • Anything you choose to sell, Sponsor or promote will almost instantly spread far and wide, enabling financial freedom for you and your loved ones.

Your turn: empowr has spent over 15 years building technologies with only one objective in mind: Bringing economic upside to you as opposed to rich investors, corporations and advertisers. So now it's your turn: Stop reading this and go close the loop with someone!
