Nyanya Fire Service Seals Illegal Petrol Station In Estate

Following protests by residents of Unity Estate in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, the Federal Fire Service has sealed up a petrol station in the estate.

The residents are concerned that the petrol station which is almost completed will worsen the already bad traffic situation in the area and also endanger their lives in the event of fire outbreak since it is situated in the midst of residential houses and worship centers.

Zonal Commander of the Nyanya Division of the Federal Fire Service Mr Ijeoma Azubuike said the petrol station was sealed over the failure of its owner to provide evidence of approval for its construction in the area.

Govt Bans Street Trading Of Foreign Currencies In Abuja

Hawking hard currencies on the streets of Abuja is now illegal. Offenders will also be  prosecuted.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Mr John Chukwu was at the popular Zone 4 foreign exchange black market in Wuse yesterday to speak to the traders.

He said that hawking money on the streets was against the Abuja master plan and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations. He advised the foreign exchange traders who wanted to remain in business to obtain CBN license and acquire proper offices.

The Abuja authorities' action may have been partly informed by security concerns as most of the traders are known to operate from shanties.

The Permanent Secretary directed Commissioner of Police, Mr Wilson Inalegwu, who chairs the Abuja Task Force in on City Cleaning to enforce the ban on street trading of hard currencies.

We Will Defeat Boko Haram This Year - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Boko Haram will be crushed by Multi-National Joint Task Force before the end of this year 2015. He said so at a ceremony marking the 55th independence anniversary of the Republic of Benin in Cotonou

Buhari expressed his firm belief that the new task force of 8700 troops is well positioned to deal Boko Haram a crushing blow. He had earlier ordered the release of $21m as Nigeria's contribution to the task force.

President Buhari thanked his host, President Boni Yayi for pledging to contribute 800 troops to support the Lake Chad Basin countries (Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon) in the war against Boko Haram.

“Henceforth, no police officer killed in the fight against insurgency will be left abandoned. The children and family of such will not be left to suffer. "

These are the words of Inspector General of Nigeria Police, Solomon Arase. He made the pledge in an address to officers and men of Abuja Police Command over the weekend.

He also said that the family of a fallen Police officer would promptly receive all emoluments due to them while four of his children would be entitled to education up to University level on the bill of the Nigeria Police.

Families of slain Nigerian Police officers are known to suffer years of hardship to get their emoluments due to corruption and bureaucracy.

How Boko Haram Used School Laboratory To Make Bombs

When Nigerian troops sacked Boko Haram Islamist terrorists from Dikwa town in Borno State last week, they made a startling discovery. The chemistry laboratory of Dikwa College of Education had become a factory where the insurgents produced explosive devices.

Army spokesman, Col Sani Usman said that IEDs, a welding machine and bomb detectors were discovered at the chemistry laboratory - turned bomb factory.

He added that the fleeing terrorists also abandoned four Toyota Hilux trucks.

Floods Wash Away Fish Farms In Abuja

Last week was one of painful losses for fish farmers in Dutsen Alhaji in Bwari Local Council of Abuja. Their farms were swept away by floods resulting from two days of massive rainfall.

Daily Trust reports that the farmers were caught unawares because of the irregular pattern of rainfall this season. The most painful thing to the farmers is that most of the fishes had reached maturity and were ready for harvest.

Alhaji B. S. Abubakar who lost over 90 %of his stock lamented ;

“I had already negotiated with a buyer who even went to the farm to assess the fishes a day before the disaster happened, only for me to wake up in the morning with the sad news of what happened the previous night. "
