Kano's Sabon Gari market burns again

Shops at the popular Sabon Gari market in Kano have been razed by fire for the second time in four months.

This time however, only shops at the meat, fish and vegetable section of the market were affected by the fire which eyewitnesses said started around 5am on Saturday.

The Director of Kano State Fire Service Fire Service, Mustapha Rilwan, said that although the fire destroyed many stalls, his men were able to bring it under control before it could spread to other sections.

“The affected shops were made up of shift but our people were able to put off the fire in time.

“The fire was said to have been caused by some people believed to have been cooking in the market,” he said.
