Police chief orders nationwide arrest of black market petrol dealers

Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase has directed Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and  Commissioners of Police across the country to henceforth arrest anyone found selling petroleum products by the roadside or in plastic containers.

Arase said that he gave the directive to check the intractable fuel crisis currently rocking the nation as well as other hazards occasioned by the activities of illegal petrol dealers.

Police spokesperson, Olabisi Kolawole announced the directive in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

“Apart from the hardship this act is causing to fuel buyers, it has also rendered some innocent and law-abiding citizens homeless due to fire outbreak from jerry-can petrol storage,” she said.
