My wife keeps HIV close to my heart - Benue Gov

“My reason for doing so is to keep HIV/AIDS issues close to my side and to my heart.”

This is how the Governor of Benue State, Mr Samuel Ortom explained his decision to appoint his wife, Dr. Eunice Erdoo Ortom as chairperson of the state AIDS Control Agency.

Making the explanation at the Ibrahim Babangida Square in Makurdi during the commemoration of the 2015 World AIDS Day, Ortom said that his wife, having worked in the agency as an Administrative Officer and Gender Focal Person on HIV/AIDS has what it takes to do the job.

Benue State now has a 5.6% prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS, placing it 9th on the nationwide list.
