Senate Calls Off Probe Of Amaechi, Mohammed.

Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions has called off its consideration of the petitions  against the nomination of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and Amina Ibrahim Mohammed as ministers.

Port Harcourt based, The Integrity Group, had in its petition to the Senate, alleged fraud and financial impropriety against Amaechi.

The petition which alleged that Amaechi mismanaged 70 billion naira belonging to the people of Rivers State was backed by all the three senators from the state.

Amaechi during a brief meeting with the committee members had informed them that the subject matter of the petition against him was already before a court of competent jurisdiction.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Samuel Anyanwu after listening to Amaechi said that it would be sub-judice to continue to handle the petition.

When the petition against Amina Mohammed came up for discussion, she told the committee to disregard it since she had no connection with Kaduna State as claimed by the petitioners

She said ;
“I was brought up in Kaduna. My father lived there but I have no connection with Kaduna State.  I am an indigent of Gombe State and the assumption is that I would be representing Gombe in the cabinet.”
