Man jailed for absconding from bar after entertaining friends with N12,000 drinks

32 years old Chukwunonso Obi has been sentenced to four months in prison by a  Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja.

The convict was jailed for absconding from a beer parlour after he and his friends had consumed N12,000 worth of drinks which he had ordered for their entertainment.

According to the Prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, Obi of Utako Village, Abuja had on July 20, 2018, bought drinks for himself and his friends worth N12,000 from Natasha Obi’s shop of the same address.

Obatomi further told the court that after Obi and his friends had consumed the drinks, he quietly sneaked out of the shop without paying the bill, thereby contravening Section 322 of the Penal Code.

She explained that he was however caught and taken to a police station where he made a confessional statement.

Sentencing the convict, the Judge, Ahmed Ado gave him an option of N5,000 fine and ordered him to pay the sum of N12,000 to the complainant.

Admonishing the convict to be of good behaviour henceforth, the judge said that he was lenient in his sentence because he had saved the court the rigour of protracted prosecution.

The convict had earlier pleaded guilty to the one count charge of cheating and begged for leniency.
