Wait For Official Announcement Of Ministerial List - APC

Nigerians have been advised to patiently wait for the official announcement of President Buhari's ministerial nominees by the Senate President on Tuesday, October 6.

He said that the names being bandied in the media as being on the list should not be completely believed.

According to APC spokesman, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, "the Senate is yet to read the list, so whatever you read anywhere is mere speculation. Not until the Senate President reads out the list on Tuesday, it will be too premature for anybody to start making a comment on who and who is on the list.

“But from what I take from what the President said this morning (Thursday), people think there has been undue delay but he explained that the delay was due to the fact that there were no proper handover notes and that the transition committee was not helped much because the transition committee did not receive the handover notes until about four days to the handover.”

In the tradition of the Senate, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki is expected to open the envelope containing the names of the nominees on the floor of the Senate when Plenary resumes on Tuesday.

More Boko Haram Insurgents Surrender

The Nigeria Army on Thursday announced the surrender of 80 Boko Haram fighters in Bama, Borno State. This is in addition to 200 other terrorists who surrendered and turned in their weapons about a week ago.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sani Usman, those who surrendered on Thursday include commanders, suppliers and footsoldiers.

“In a landmark event today, 80 Boko Haram terrorists have surrendered en mass to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in Bama, Borno State.

“The terrorists among whom were commanders, suppliers and foot soldiers confirmed to have partaken in several terrorist attacks especially on Bama town, Borno State, surrendered as a result of the intense heat and continuous offensive action embarked upon by troops.

“It would be recalled that we have repeatedly stated that surrender is the only option available to insurgents as the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force in conjunction with other security agencies are totally committed to the achievement of the three months presidential deadline for the eradication of terrorism in Nigeria.

“Other terrorists are encouraged to also surrender or face total annihilation. As the new name of the operation states ‘achievement of total peace is a must’.

“Citizens are please requested to continue providing useful information to security agencies that will lead to apprehension of all known terrorists."

Troops Raid Another Boko Haram Fuel Station In Borno

Following a tip-off, Nigerian troops on Wednesday, raided a fuel storage facility belonging to Boko Haram insurgents in the Abbaganaram area of Maiduguri, Borno State.

Army spokesman Col Sani Usman said that one arrest was made while several items were confiscated.

His words ;
“During the operation, one person, Musa Abba, was arrested and the following items were discovered and confiscated; 11 drums of AGO and one empty drum.

“Other items include 192 of 25 litres Jerry cans, out of which 70 were loaded with AGO, PMS and DPK, a Toyota bus, one Peugeot car, a motorcycle and an air conditioner."

Col Usman said that the facility was used to stockpile petroleum products for onward movement to the Sambisa forest base of the terrorists.

He thanked the public for their support which he said has boosted the success of the troops in their counterinsurgency operations.

He said ;
“Over time we have been exhorting the public especially the residents of parts of the North East affected by the insurgency to cooperate fully with the military and the security agencies.

“It is gratifying to note that such call is being heeded to by overwhelming majority of people as exemplified by the courageous and patriotic efforts of the good citizens that exposed this fuel dump in their midst.

“It is important that people should see the fight against the security menace of Boko Haram terrorism as collective responsibility.

“Therefore the public are kindly requested to be more vigilant and assist with useful information that would assist in preventing Boko Haram terrorists from carrying out their nefarious activities against the society."

Abuja DISCO Refunds Over-billed Customers

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC has said that it has started refunding over billed customers in the Federal Capital Territory in compliance with Federal Government's directive.

The Managing Director of AEDC, Mr Neil Croucher, disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

However, he did not say how much or how many customers have been refunded.

NAN recalls that the Chairman of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Sam Amadi, recently told the Senate that the commission ordered the refund after series of complaints from AEDC customers.

Croucher pointed out that the over billing issue was a legacy problem which the company inherited and had been battling with ever since.

His words ;
“On the issue of bills not reflecting the amount of electricity consumed or customers pay and is not reflecting, this is one of the problems we inherited with the old billing system.

“That is why we have spent a lot of time and money in installing a new billing system that is centralised. It will soon be a thing of the past.

“But if any customer has a complaint he can come to us. We have teams in the field that will go and investigate.

“If in that process we identify that we have been over-charging, we will correct it."
