Buhari Reinstates Abdullahi As MD Of NPA

Mr Habibu Abdullahi has been reinstated as the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority by President Muhammadu Buhari. The reinstatement is with immediate effect.

In a statement released by presidential spokesman Femi Adeshina, Buhari directed Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero to hand over all government property in his possession to Mr Habibu Abdullahi.

No reason was given for the sack of Ado Bayero, but the president wished him well in his future endeavors.

Buhari Charges Service Chiefs To End Insurgency In Three Months

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, charged the newly appointed service chiefs to end Boko Haram attacks within three months.

"You need to brace up and continue to team up with other stakeholders to come up with a well coordinated joint effort which will bring a desired end to these insurgencies within three months," Buhari said while swearing in the service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The president added that the activities of the insurgents had led to reckless destruction of lives and properties of Nigerians as well as a disruption of the socioeconomic life of the North East region.

The Boko Haram insurgency which began six years ago has left over 15000 dead and hundreds of thousands displaced. Under the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan, the Islamist militants captured swathes of land which they labeled Islamic territories, renaming some ancient cities in the process.

However, the military regained some of the territories from the terrorists in the weeks leading to the last general elections.

Service Chiefs Take Oath Of Office In Abuja

The newly appointed service chiefs were today, sworn into office at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja by President Muhammadu Buhari. He urged them to deal decisively with the security challenges facing the country.

He reminded that their appointments were based on their track records for which reason he had no doubt they would tackle Boko Haram insurgency, armed robbey and all forms of militancy decisively.

The new service chiefs are Major-General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (Chief of Defence Staff); Major-General T.Y. Buratai (Chief of Army Staff), Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Chief of Naval Staff) and Air Vice-Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff), Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan (Chief of Defence Intelligence) and retired Major-General Babagana Monguno (National Security Adviser)

The president charged them to "get back to work and do your country proud."

Ohuhu Women Celebrate Cultural Day In Abuja

Ohuhu Women's Welfare Union will be marking the Ohuhu Cultural Day in Abuja on Saturday the 15th of August 2015.

According to Mrs Chinyere Iroele, President of Ohuhu Women's Welfare Union in Abuja and Mrs Ezinne Okey Uchendu, also of the Abuja branch of the union, the event is intended to celebrate Igbo language and culture.

The union said that it has observed that most Igbo people raised outside Igbo land cannot cook Igbo food. To address this situation, a variety of Igbo cuisine will be on display while their methods of preparation will be demonstrated.

The event which kicks off by 11 am at Education Resource Center, Wuse Zone 7 will feature teachings on Igbo culture with emphasis on the Ohuhu clan, especially how they prepare and eat their food.

Highlights of the event will include drama and Igbo rap music.

Igbo cuisine that will be showcased include Okra soup, ofe achara, akpu, mkpurusu, awa, okazi soup among others. Guests will also see how the Igbo eat their local foods.

Ohuhu is a clan in Umuahia North Local Council of Abia State. The state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu is expected to be among the dignitaries at the event.

Two Housewives Die In Zamfara After Eating Local Meal

Two housewives have died of stomach trouble after eating a dinner made from a local vegetable. According to a family source, the women had sent their children to the farm in the evening to get some vegetables for the night's dinner.

Soon after eating the dinner, the two housewives were said to have developed severe stomach pains, prompting neighbors to rush them to hospital. However, they died before they could get there.

Their husband who also ate the food is receiving treatment at the hospital. It was not disclosed whether the children who brought the vegetables ate the meal.

Confirming the story, Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sanusi Amiru advised the citizens to observe proper hygiene in handling their food..

Aftermath of Love Fight, Body of 28 Year Old Woman Dumped By Roadside

When 28 year old Iklima Alhassan left her Bukuru village in Plateau State to visit her boyfriend, Nasiru Usman Banki in Bauchi, she must have had thoughts of love and bliss. Little did she know that she was about to meet her worst nightmare.

Trouble started when Iklima arrived Nasiru's home at Rafin Makaranta area of Bauchi and met him with another woman identified as Fatima Baba Isa, aged 22.

One thing led to the other and a fight ensued between the two jealous women in the early hours of August 9. The details of the fight are not known, but Iklima's body was discovered by the police at Maiduguri bypass by Awalla roundabout.

She was confirmed dead at the Bauchi Teaching Hospital where her remains were deposited in the mortuary.

Bauchi Police spokesman, DSP Haruna Mohammed said that Nasiru Usman Banki and Fatima Baba Isa are now in police custody.  They are undergoing interrogations even as the result of postmortem examinations on the body of the deceased is being awaited.

National Hospital Abuja Live-tweets Surgery 8-year Old Hole-in-the-heart Girl

On Tuesday, the National Hospital, Abuja Live-tweeted a surgical procedure at its trauma center. The operation was to repair a hole in the heart of an eight year old girl.
