Blame Parradang for Immigration recruitment tragedy - Abba Moro

As the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC finalizes plans for his trial over the 2014 Immigration Service recruitment fiasco that led to the death of fifteen applicants, former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro is blaming the former Comptroller General of Immigration, David Parradang for that avoidable tragedy.

Specifically, Moro accused Parradang of abandoning the recruitment exercise to attend a birthday party.

His words :
“If I prevented Mr. Parradang from carrying out the job of recruitment as Minister of Interior, did I go with his sense of responsibility of knowing how not to conduct employment without budgetary provision and utter disregard for extant rules?

“Yes, I wrote to the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice to seek clarification to guide the Board when I discovered that the Presidential Committee assisting the Board had assumed a life of its own and was conducting the recruitment rather than assist the Board.

“What value was Parradang adding to the work of the Presidential Committee when on March 15, 2014 he abandoned his duty to provide leadership to the conduct of the recruitment to attend birthday parties in Jos?

“The same way he chose to gallivant in America and the UK during the 2014 Promotion Exercise against official advice."

Meanwhile, sources said that the EFCC has concluded plans for the arraignment of former Minister of Interior Abba Moro, a former Permanent Secretary and a director over the N650million proceeds of the Immigration recruitment fraud.

6.5million candidates applied for 5,000 immigration jobs, each person paying an application fee of N1000.

In the stampede that ensued during the exercise, 15 persons lost their lives while many others sustained injuries in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Minna centers.

Speaking on the investigation, a source close to the anti-graft agency said in confidence that;
“No one can account for the whereabouts of the N650million collected from applicants. Out of the fees, N212million was budgeted for the March 2014 recruitment exercise but N45 million was eventually released and some officers still helped themselves with it.

“So far about N167million meant for logistics on the test day could not be accounted for by anyone or group. “

New Acting DG takes over at BPP

The Director of Agriculture and Water Resources Department at the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, Ahmed Abdu has assumed office as the Acting Director General of the agency.

This development followed the reversal of the appointment of Babatunde Kuye as the agency’s Acting Director -General.

The BPP said in a statement in Abuja that the reversal was sequel to the discovery that Abdu and not Kuye, was the most senior Director on the nominal roll of the bureau.

The immediate past Director General of BPP, Emeka Ezeh who was sacked by President Buhari alongside 25 other heads of parastatals had handed over the affairs of the agency to Kuye in acting capacity.

Kuye has since handed over to Abdu, pledging his total support.

Senate Committee gives Abuja 21 days to clean up filth

The Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory on Monday flayed the six local councils in Abuja over the mounting filth across the city.

Of particular concern to the committee is the filthy state of parks and markets in Abuja.

The Chairman of the committee, Senator Dino Melaye therefore handed down a 21-day ultimatum to the councils to clean up their areas or face sanctions.

Melaye who gave the order during a meeting with chairmen of the six area councils in the FCT, said that Abuja was too dirty to be the seat of power and a capital city stressing that no nation's capital around the world was as dirty as Abuja.

His words:
“This committee is giving you three weeks to clean up the metropolis, the environmental sanitation in the FCT particularly the area councils especially AMAC is poor.

“You see heaps of rubbish on the road side, Abuja is the pride of Africa, we cannot let this continue.

“After three weeks if you don’t clean up the FCT we will clean you up: you cannot be collecting revenue from the market and the market will be very dirty.

“You go to our parks and it is an eye sore. Two weeks you won’t clean the parks and you are generating money from that park, and when they ask you will say there is no money.

“We are very serious about cleaning up the city. Within three weeks, clean up Abuja, especially the satellite towns.”

Melaye noted that the parks and markets within Abuja have remained dirty even when they generate a lot of revenue for the councils.

Oliseh must not fail against Egypt - Ladipo

Barely one month to the AFCON 2017 clash between Nigeria's Super Eagles and the Pharaohs of Egypt, President General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Dr.Rafiu Ladipo has said that Super Eagles manager, Sunday Oliseh and his crew can’t afford to fail the country.

Ladipo said that Oliseh must scale the Pharoahs of Egypt hurdle.

He warned that continuing to dwell on the insults the coach gave to Nigerians would only distract the team.

Speaking ahead of the encounters slated for Kaduna and Cairo, Dr. Ladipo called on Nigerians to unite and support the Super Eagles to overcome Egypt.

“We all felt insulted by the ranting of our coach but he should realise that no coach goes without criticisms. Nigerians are passionate about football and are free to air their opinions. As a coach all he needed do is to sieve useful information from all of it and make the best out of it.

“Nigeria has seen coaches before him and they were all criticized. He should also realise that as a player, many supported him and even when he was appointed, he was hailed but when he is not doing well, people will voice out. No one expected that Nigeria will lose out at the preliminary stage of CHAN.

“However, I am glad he realised his mistakes and apologised to Nigerians. I believe we can beat Egypt in Kaduna and pick a draw in Cairo. Nigerians should come out enmass and support the Eagles in Kaduna for us to record a win so as to make the second leg easier.”

Oliseh is expected to appear before the technical committee of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF on February 26 to defend his team list for the match against Egypt in Kaduna on March 25.
