Buhari will fulfill campaign promises - Lai Mohammed

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will fulfill his campaign promises to Nigerians.

He however said that the implementation of Buhari's plans for the country is being delayed by issues concerning the passage and signing into law of the budget.

“No government can achieve its aim or implement its promises without the budget,” he said.

Mohammed said that the Federal Government would address the problems of the nation by diversifying the economy and providing quality education and good health system.

“This government will not neglect infrastructure development, and will ensure that there is good governance and zero tolerance for corruption.

“There will be employment, one meal-per-day program for schools, scholarship and expansion of small-scale businesses in the country, and many more.

“Our message is that the hardship will soon be a thing of the past,” he said.

Chagro Care Trust, T Y Danjuma Foundation donate relief materials to displaced persons

The non-governmental organisations , Chagro Care Trust, and T Y Danjuma Foundation have donated relief materials to some internally displaced persons in Taraba State.

The displaced persons who are being camped in Mansutu village of Ardo Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State are victims of Boko Haram terrorist activities in Gwoza, Borno State.

The relief items were presented to the IDPs by the Programme Officer of Chagro care Trust, Miss Rijimra Ande.

She said that the plight of the IDPs was brought to her organization's attention by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR.

Ande also appealed to organizations and well-meaning individuals to help make life more meaningful for the displaced persons.

“To be honest, when we came for needs assessment, we were tempted not to come back due to complete lack of access roads to the community.

“But the condition we saw you compelled us to find a way of bringing the intervention to you,’’ she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that 12 bags of rice, 58 pieces of mosquito nets, 48 jerry cans, 48 cooking pots, sanitary pads, bathing soap and other items were donated to the displaced persons.

Fear of reprisal attacks against herdsmen grips Benue Govt

The government of Benue State is worried about the growing resentment of its people against Fulani herdsmen.

Repeated attacks by armed Fulani herdsmen which have left hundreds of people dead and thousands homeless have led to the formation of the Movement Against Fulani Occupation, MAFO in the state.

Addressing members of MAFO during their peaceful protest around Makurdi on Thursday, Deputy Governor Benson Abounu warned against any form of reprisal attacks against Fulani herdsmen.

Abounu assured the protesters that Benue State was collaborating with the Federal Government to prevent further crises between the herdsmen and their host communities in the state.

He also said that the state government was working round the clock to rehabilitate individuals and communities affected by recent Fulani herdsmen attacks.
