Fear of reprisal attacks against herdsmen grips Benue Govt

The government of Benue State is worried about the growing resentment of its people against Fulani herdsmen.

Repeated attacks by armed Fulani herdsmen which have left hundreds of people dead and thousands homeless have led to the formation of the Movement Against Fulani Occupation, MAFO in the state.

Addressing members of MAFO during their peaceful protest around Makurdi on Thursday, Deputy Governor Benson Abounu warned against any form of reprisal attacks against Fulani herdsmen.

Abounu assured the protesters that Benue State was collaborating with the Federal Government to prevent further crises between the herdsmen and their host communities in the state.

He also said that the state government was working round the clock to rehabilitate individuals and communities affected by recent Fulani herdsmen attacks.
