To augment other measures aimed at tackling the spread of terrorist activities across the country, the police has placed extremist clerics and all militia groups under watch.

Buhari Warns Military Against Rights Abuse
President Muhammadu Buhari has warned that members of the armed forces who violate the rights of civilians would be sanctioned.
He gave the warning yesterday in Kaduna at the passing out parade of 399 officer cadets of the 62 regular course and short service course 43 of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
The president urged officers and men of the armed forces to resist the temptation to harassing civilians while carrying out their lawful duties.
He vowed that his administration would uphold the rule of law and therefore urged the military to avoid actions that would infringe on the rights of civilians.
He said, “I wish to remind you of the Federal Government’s commitment to overhaul the rules of engagement and improve operational and legal mechanisms so that disciplinary steps are taken against proven human rights violations by the armed forces.
"We are committed to a thorough investigation of recent and any future occurrences of human rights violations by elements of our armed forces.
“While I applaud the integrity and sterling record of the armed forces as an institution, this administration will insist on the rule of law and deal with any proven cases of deviation from laws of armed conflict, including human rights abuses."
Northern Leaders Responsible For North's Backwardness
The present generation of Northern leaders is responsible for the region's backwardness given that they have abandoned diligence and selfless service to pursue self aggrandizement.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo made the remark while speaking at the Northern Reawakening Forum summit held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on Saturday.
The theme of the seminar was,
“Building a Safe, Secure and Economically Inclusive Northern Nigeria”
He noted that northern leaders have abandoned the foundation laid by their founding fathers, thereby creating the problems the country is facing today.
“Our history reminds us of the visionary leaders in Nigeria, who fired our imagination through their vision, diligence and selfless service, who did not live or fight to enrich themselves; they did not leave vast personal estates behind, but their names and legacies live in the hearts of the people
"Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Mallam Aminu Kano, J. S. Tarka and countless others clearly understood the varied issues afflicting the region, thought through them, laid the plans and worked selflessly to realize them”.
He pointed out that the 19 Northern states have the lowest human development indices in the country.
