Beware of Wonder Banks - CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has called on Nigerians to be careful about finance houses offering mouthwatering interests on deposits.

The apex bank's Director of Corporate Communications, Mr Muazu Ibrahim made the call in Kaduna on Thursday during a sensitization fair tagged PROMOTING FINANCIAL STABILITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.

He said that the objective of the fair was to tell the people how they could leverage on the various economic initiatives of the apex bank.

He said ; “let me use this medium to caution members of the public to be very careful and mindful of the activities of illicit financial houses (wonder banks) so as not to lose their hard earned money in the pursuit of ‘mouthwatering’ fictitious returns on investment.

“Endeavour to verify such offers by prospective finance houses before parting with your money. You can always visit the CBN website or any branch of the CBN nearest to you for clarifications on the status of such houses.

“Our various initiatives on monetary policy, modernisation of the payment system, development financing programmes and financial literacy have been designed to revamp, reposition and re-engineer vital sectors of the economy.

“Some of these initiatives include Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (ACGSF), Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSME), Micro Finance Policy, Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme (CACS), cashless policy, electronic payment system (alternative payment channels), financial inclusion and pursuit of sound and stable financial system."

Army Chief Hoists Nigerian Flag In Gamboru, Sleeps In The Trench With Troops

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai has hoisted the Nigerian flag in the commercial town of Gamboru Ngala in Borno State. The town which lies on the border with Cameroun was recently recaptured from Boko Haram insurgents by Nigerian troops.

A statement released in Abuja on Thursday by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sani Usman said that Buratai warned the front line troops involved in the offensive against complacency.

He told them to be on top of their game until the insurgents are completely defeated. He reminded them that the militants are still planting IEDs and attacking soft targets.

While hoisting the Nigerian flag at Gamboru, Gen Buratai had Said :

“This signifies the restoration of Nigeria’s authority and complete possession of its territory within the area.“

I commended our troops for the feat of recapturing the strategic and economic town of Gomboru Ngala.

“This is in line with the vision and the mission of the Nigerian Army of defending the territorial integrity of our great nation."

The troops were inspired by Lt Gen Buratai's visit to the front line during which he slept in the trenches amid heavy downpour.

Senator Detained In Saudi Arabia After Lying To Officers

A former Nigerian Senator has been detained in Saudi Arabia for providing misleading information.

Senator Hassan Barata who was the Chairman, Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism in the sixth Senate represented Adamawa South.

The former Senator is reported to have run into trouble when he lied to the Saudi authorities that he was a staff of Nigerian embassy.

Barata who was elected into the Senate on the platform of the PDP is believed to be holding an official passport at the time of his arrest.

President Buhari had recently ordered the retrieval of diplomatic and official passports from those who were not supposed to hold them.
