Court orders flogging of Abuja teenage thief

Mohammed Ali,18 was on Thursday sentenced to six strokes of cane by a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja.

The presiding judge, Abubakar Sadiq, gave the order after Ali had pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing iron rods and subsequently begging for leniency.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah had told the court that one Dandaura Musa of Plot 196 behind Standard Construction Company Jabi, Abuja, caught Ali in the act and brought him to Utako Police Station on March 25.

He explained that on the same date at about 2 a.m., Ali had in the company of his accomplice now at large, unlawfully entered into Plot 196 Jabi, and stole five iron rods valued at N7,000 in contravention of Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal code.

He added that the convict during interrogation owned up to the crime.
