Kingsley Njuzie, an apprentice trader was on Thursday brought before a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja on a two-count charge of criminal force and assault and voluntarily causing hurt.
The prosecutor, Urom Otu told the court that Njuzie, 26, who is a resident of Lagos Street, Garki village stabbed his girlfriend, Charity Ene with a knife.
Otu also told the court that the complainant, Ene of Wunba village, Apo, Abuja had reported the matter at the Garki Police Station on May 8.
He alleged that the defendant dragged the complainant from a moving tricycle and beat her up before assaulting her with a knife, thereby inflicting bodily injuries in contravention of Sections 265 and 246 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail by the Presiding Officer, Alhaji Umar Kagarko in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
Kagarko ruled that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, and adjourned the matter till July 27 for hearing.
