Players and officials of Enyimba International FC saw hell at the hands of fans of Kano Pillars in Kano on Sunday after defeating the home team 2 - 1 in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League match.
Chairman of Enyimba, Felix Anyansi Agwu told Daily SunSport on telephone that his players and driver were given the beating of their lives and their vehicle damaged for daring to come to Kano and beat Pillars.
“Enyimba players are being held hostage here and our bus damaged as well with our driver beaten. All these because we defied the form book to beat Kano Pillars 2-1 and denied them the chance to go top of the Nigeria league table.
“This is not good for Nigerian football. If a team plays well home or away and deserve to win, so be it. Why must teams win at home by all means? We watch leagues around the world and appreciate it when teams go away and record wins but frown at it here in Nigeria. Teams winning anywhere will help the growth of our league,” he said.
The home team had led in the first half only for Enyimba to equalize and score the winning goal in the second half, thus handing Pillars their first home defeat of the season.
