Mr. Bitrus Gwada, a former legal adviser to the Arewa Consultative Forum has declared that only the former BOT chairman of PDP, Chief Tony Anenih and Alhaji Tanko Yakassai can account for how the N63m meant for the Presidential Advocacy Group was spent.
He said that he and the other members of the group set up by former President Goodluck Jonathan have nothing to do with the controversy surrounding the money.
Anenih had told EFCC officials investigating the $2.1b Dasuki armsgate that he gave N63m out of the N260m he received from the former NSA to Yakassai to fund the activities of the advocacy group.
However, the elder statesman and Chairman of the Northern Elders Council said that he only got N53m from Anenih for the Presidential Advocacy Group which toured the 19 northern states to douse the tension that arose in the course of preparations for the 2015 general elections.
Explaining how he got involved with the group, Gwada said ;
“I have read the report concerning Chief Tony Anenih’s N63 million allegation and that of Tanko Yakassai. Friends and relations have called me saying that Alhaji Yakassai had disclosed that I was one of those he requested to be on the Presidency’s advocacy group.
“He wanted me to join a presidential advocacy group to meet socio-cultural, faith-based NGOs and traditional rulers in the 19 northern states to solicit for their support during the elections in view of the tension in the land at that time.”
Gwada said that he only agreed to join the group only after he was assured that they would not be used to campaign for any political party.
“I will not join issues on the N63 million or N53 million; because Anenih said he gave Tanko Yakassai N63 million and Yakassai has responded that he collected only N53 million. What I am saying is that I never collected any money from Chief Anenih. It is a matter only between Anenih and Alhaji Tanko Yakassai," he said.
