Operators Of Radio Biafra Arrested, Taken To Abuja

Some of the people responsible for the broadcasts of Radio Biafra have been arrested and taken to Abuja for questioning and prosecution. This was made known by the Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Mr Emeka Mba on Friday.

The Director General said that the radio station had been neutralized and its equipment confiscated with the help of security operatives.

Mr Mba in a statement he released to newsmen, said, "the commission has worked with other agencies to remove the transmissions of the illegal station from the satellite, and this has put paid to the divisive and disruptive transmissions. We are working on the Internet transmissions."

Only a few days ago, Radio Biafra debunked an earlier claim by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Mrs Shade Yemi-Esan that its signals had been jammed.

Radio Biafra had responded through Twitter that "Radio Biafra is live in Biafra land... How can you jam satellite and Internet radio?"

Whether the NBC has finally succeeded in putting the radio station out of operations, only the coming days will tell.
