The task force said to be made up of the Nigeria Police Force, Civil Defence and Navy decended on the journalist when they saw her filming them with her mobile phone as they raided street hawkers in the area. After being thoroughly manhandled, she was bundled into their pickup van and driven to the police station where she was detained for over 7 hours in an overcrowded cell.
Her mobile phone was seized by the task force and all the recordings deleted. According to Dorothy Njemanze, her colleagues from the Bring Back Our Girls [BBOG] group who came to intervene on her behalf were also beaten up. The BBOG members who got beaten up are Sesugh Akume and Aliu Isa Abubakar.
The task force claimed that by filming their activities, the journalist obstructed the performance of their lawful duty. They also said that she intended to incite the public against them by sharing the video on the internet.
