Court dismisses Saraki's application to stop his trial

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday struck out the appeal by Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki to stop his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.

Saraki is being tried for false declaration of assets while he was the governor of Kwara State.

Ruling on Saraki's application, Justice Abdul Kafarati said that the CCT was properly constituted and should not be disturbed in the performance of its duties.

“This court cannot interfere with the proceedings before the tribunal; it cannot also interfere with the duties of the respondents which have been imposed on them by law,” he said.

Abuja-Kaduna road claims another top government official

Just a few weeks after the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barrister James Ocholi died in a road accident along the Abuja-Kaduna highway, another high-ranking government official has suffered the same fate.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that the Acting Director-General of National Centre for Women Development, NCWD, Abuja, Abdulmalik Dauda died in an accident along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway on Friday.

The protocol officer in the office of the Director General, Mr Muhammad Aliyu while confirming the development said that Dauda was returning from an official assignment when the accident happened.

Dauda who took over from Onyeka Onwenu as the D-G of NCWD is survived by two wives and five children.

He has been buried according to Islamic rites

Buhari will fulfill campaign promises - Lai Mohammed

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will fulfill his campaign promises to Nigerians.

He however said that the implementation of Buhari's plans for the country is being delayed by issues concerning the passage and signing into law of the budget.

“No government can achieve its aim or implement its promises without the budget,” he said.

Mohammed said that the Federal Government would address the problems of the nation by diversifying the economy and providing quality education and good health system.

“This government will not neglect infrastructure development, and will ensure that there is good governance and zero tolerance for corruption.

“There will be employment, one meal-per-day program for schools, scholarship and expansion of small-scale businesses in the country, and many more.

“Our message is that the hardship will soon be a thing of the past,” he said.
