Former Super Eagles star Nwankwo Kanu was at the Abuja headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC on Thursday.

Photos show the former Ajax Amsterdam and Arsenal FC player on a guided tour of the FRSC offices with officials of the road safety agency.

Fear of reprisal attacks against herdsmen grips Benue Govt

The government of Benue State is worried about the growing resentment of its people against Fulani herdsmen.

Repeated attacks by armed Fulani herdsmen which have left hundreds of people dead and thousands homeless have led to the formation of the Movement Against Fulani Occupation, MAFO in the state.

Addressing members of MAFO during their peaceful protest around Makurdi on Thursday, Deputy Governor Benson Abounu warned against any form of reprisal attacks against Fulani herdsmen.

Abounu assured the protesters that Benue State was collaborating with the Federal Government to prevent further crises between the herdsmen and their host communities in the state.

He also said that the state government was working round the clock to rehabilitate individuals and communities affected by recent Fulani herdsmen attacks.

Court urged to restrain INEC from conducting Imo rerun election

A Federal High Court, Abuja has been approached to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC from further conducting the re-run election ordered in Imo North Senatorial District by the Court of Appeal, Owerri.

The suit filed by Igwe Maduakolam and marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/23/2016 joined INEC and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the last election into Imo North Senatorial Zone, Senator Athan Nneji Achonu as defendants.

Among the relief sought by Maduakolam is an order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC from conducting or attempting to conduct any further re-run/fresh election into the Imo north Senatorial District till 2019, having failed to conduct the re-run election within the 90 days ordered by the court of Appeal in suit CA/OW/EPT/SN/52/2015.

The plaintiff also asked the court to declare that INEC cannot  conduct the said Imo North Senatorila District, Okigwe rerun election outside the 90 days ordered by the Court of Appeal, Owerri in accordance with Section 140(2) of the Electoral Act.

Finally, Maduakolam wants an order of the court directing Senator Athan Nneji Achonu to continue in office as the Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District since INEC has failed to conduct the rerun election within the timeline  ordered by the Court of Appeal, Owerri in its judgement of December 11, 2015 in suit No: CA/OW/EPT/SN/52/2015.

Meanwhile, Justice John Tsoho has fixed May 4, 2016 for preliminary hearing.

The Department of State Services on Thursday, paraded Bello Danhajiya who is presumed to be the second-in-command to the detained leader of Ansaru terrorist group, Khalid Al-Barnawi.

The DSS while parading the suspect before newsmen disclosed that he has been involved in many criminal activities including gun running and cattle rustling.
