This king grows Indian hemp in his farm

The traditional ruler of Koje community in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa state, Mr. Samuel Agu was on Friday arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA for growing and harvesting twelve kilograms of Indian hemp in his farm.

The Commander of the NDLEA in Nasarawa State, Mr Sumaila Ethan while parading the suspect in Lafia, the state capital said :

“On March 4, 2016, we arrested Mr. Samuel Agu, the village head with bags of cannabis sativa weighing about12 kg.

“The village head confessed that he had been getting the supply of the cannabis seeds from a Fulani herdsman, the weed seized from him was the remnant of what he harvested from his farm.

“The village head, who is expected to live an exemplary life style that is worthy of emulation, was the same person selling cannabis for consumption.

“It is pertinent to alert the people of the state and the whole world that, there is an alarming increase in the activities of illicit barons in the state particularly those entrusted with positions of leadership in our rural communities.”

He added that so far this year, 28 suspects have been arrested with 460 kg of hard drugs confiscated from them.

Abuja-Kaduna rail coaches arrive Lagos, to begin test run March 31

The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi has announced the arrival of coaches for the Abuja-Kaduna Rail Modernisation Project in Lagos.

He said that the test run of the coaches will begin by March 31, 2016.

Amaechi said this on Friday during a courtesy visit to his office by Abuja Transport and Aviation Correspondents Association, ATCA.

He assured of Federal Government's commitment to ensure that the project begins commercial operations by May this year.

"The coaches have arrived, I was to inspect them on Monday but unfortunately we lost our colleague, the Minister of State, Labour and Employment, so I had to call off the inspection.

"We are making arrangements to bring the coaches to Abuja. I just signed the letter for China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), requesting for approval to test-run the coaches.

"We are still on target; the only problem we have is that of the Daughters of Charity Hospital, Kubwa, Abuja.

"The Certificate of Ownership has been signed and the Federal Government has paid the compensation, though not released to the hospital yet.

"But the CCECC is trying to be evasive with its corporate social responsibility commitment to the hospital, it previously agreed upon our request.

"CCECC is supposed to donate a building to the hospital. We are still discussing with the company.

"I feel CCECC should support the hospital.

"It’s not too much because the company is making money on the project; the church practically offers services to the community,’’ he said.
