CHAN exit: Please forgive us, Oliseh begs Nigerians

Coach of the Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh has tendered his unreserved apologies to Nigerians for the early exit of the home based Eagles from the African Nations Championship in Rwanda.

The Nigerian team failed to progress to the knock out stage of the tournament, having lost to the Syli Stars of Guinea by a lone goal on Tuesday.

“We apologize to Nigerians for this loss. We never planned to exit the tournament this early. The boys gave their best,“ Oliseh said on his Twitter handle – Coach @SundayOOliseh.

Former EFCC boss, Waziri's daughter dies in Abuja

One time Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs Farida Waziri on Sunday, lost a daughter in Abuja.

The deceased, Mrs. Jackie Ifidon-Ola, (nee Waziri) reportedly died at an Abuja hospital in the early hours of Sunday after after she was rushed there for treatment.

A source close to the family said that the remains of the 39 years old London based woman who is survived by her parents, husband and two children will be buried in Abuja on Saturday.

Waziri’s media aide, Mr. Ade Williams,confirmed the incident.
“Since the incident happened, highly placed Nigerian leaders have been visiting the Waziri family to console them in their Abuja home," he said.

NAF reconfigures demilitarized Alfa Jets for combat roles (Photos)

These two Alfa Jets were bought by the Goodluck Jonathan administration in 2015 to enhance the operational efficiency of the air force, but could not be used because they lacked weapons delivery capability.

However, a team of technicians from the Nigerian Air Force, NAF has successfully reconfigured them for effective deployment in counter insurgency operations in the Northeast.

Fire Service personnel look on as inferno consumes 500 shops in Kaduna market.

No fewer than five hundred shops were consumed by an early morning fire at the Station Market in Kaduna South local government area of Kaduna State.

Items destroyed in the fire incident include foodstuff, fruits, plastics and mobile phone accessories valued at hundreds of millions of naira.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that the fire which broke out at about 1am lasted till around 5 am by which time the market which was the main hub for fruits, grains, chicken and plastics had become a smouldering heap with practically everything in sight completely burnt out.

All around the shouldering remains of the market, anguished shop owners and their loved ones could be seen bemoaning their losses.

According to eyewitness accounts, men of the Kaduna State Fire Service arrived the scene in time but their vehicle broke down before they could engage the raging fire.

“Men of the state fire service came on time but they were unable to put out the fire as their truck developed fault and we had to use buckets to put off the fire," said Danladi Rabiu, the head of the market's security unit.

26 year-old thief to spend 4 weeks in prison.

The Gudu Upper Area Court in Abuja this Tuesday handed Barau Sani, 26 a four-week jail term for stealing a gas cooker and cylinder.

Sani, of Garki Village, Abuja, was convicted on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.

The Prosecutor, Urom Otu,told the court that one Ochoga Monday, of Studies Garden, Garki 2, Abuja, reported the case at the Garki Police Station on Jan. 20.

He said that Sani unlawfully entered the said Garden where the complainant works and stole the gas cooker and cylinder on the said date.

According to the prosecutor, Sani was attempting to escape with the stolen items when the complainant saw him and raised the alarm following which he was arrested with the assistance of security guards in the Garden.

The prosecution told the court that the offence contravened Sections 348 and 287 of the penal code.

The accused pleaded guilty and prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.

After considering the accused's plea for leniency, the judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, sentenced him to a prison term of four weeks with an option of N 6, 000 fine and a warning  to stay away from crime.

The judge also ordered that the recovered items  be returned to the owner within 30 days from Jan. 26.
