We are not cowards, 24 dismissed soldiers beg Buratai.

ABUJA
On 13 December 2015, 24 soldiers from the 118 Task Force Battalion in Borno State were dismissed from the Nigerian Army by their Commanding Officer for desertion.

The soldiers comprising seven corporals, ten lance corporals and seven privates have now petitioned the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai against their unlawful dismissal which they said was done without a boardroom trial.

In the petition dated January 6, 2016 which was addressed to the Chief of Army Staff and copied to the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, and the Minister of Defence, Big-Gen Dan Ali, retd., counsel to the dismissed soldiers, Mr Johnson Oyewole said that their travails started when their battalion was sacked by Boko Haram fighters while they were on a mission to Damasak in Borno State in December last year.

Following the attack in which they lost some men, the troops retreated to Gubio local government area in Borno State according to Oyewole

Soon after, the Commanding Officer sent a civilian truck to move the troops to Baga Cross, but they resisted the order because the truck lacked the capacity to safely take them to the designated location.

Oyewole said that the Commanding Officer subsequently sent a military truck that took the troops to Baga Cross only to summarily try and dismiss them for desertion and being absent from duty for six days.

The dismissed soldiers as listed in the petition are :
Corporals Endurance Ekparba, Onyile Jeremiah, Johnny Donnish, Francis Obi, Uche Eke, Bitrus Ntasiri and Chima Rapheal;
Lance corporals Timothy Adeleye, Felix Musa, Nande Samson, Segi Inemotimi, Bashir Lawal, Morgak Sagak, Inubile Yunusa, Nafiu Ahmed, Balogun Sunday, Madu Oniuenyin and Privates Shaba Muhammad, Joshua Yohanna, Obasi Enyinanya, Osam Loveday, Okon Solomon, Albar Amishe and Sani Yusuf.

Barr Oyewole urged the Chief of Army Staff to look into the wrongful dismissal of his clients. He maintained that the soldiers are not cowards or deserters but are eager to continue the fight against the terrorists.

Qura’nic Graduate Urges Parents To Enroll Children For Western Education

A graduating student of the Madarasatul Faitul Islam in Dutsen Kura Gwari, in Minna, Niger State has called on parents to allow their children to acquire both Islamic and Western education.

Miss Rukayat Baba-Mohammed made the call in Minna on Sunday during the Qura’nic Graduation (Wolimat) of 114 students of the school.

She said that acquiring both Islamic and Western education will make the society more secure as less youths would be involved in vices due to lack of knowledge.

Earlier, the proprietor of the school, Sheikh Muhammadu Isah-Kutigi had urged political leaders to abide by their oaths of office and remember the day of judgment in the discharge of their duties.

He said that society would be better off when elected and appointed leaders lived above board.

“They should always remember that they have either sworn with Holy Qur’an or Holy Bible, and as such, should not renege on such oaths” he admonished.

The cleric also urged Nigerians to continue to tolerate and live in peace with one another regardless of religion, culture and tribal differences.

He informed that both the EFCC and NFIU are considering the possibility of organizing retreats for the BDCs to educate them on the procedures to report illicit financial flow and money laundering activities. .

According to Gwadabe, ABCON has zero tolerance for noncompliance with regulatory requirements and unethical conducts for which reason it created the office of Compliance Officer in its National Secretariat and Zonal Offices.

Gwadabe said that each of the a BDCs under probe exchanged about $350 million, with minimal or no documentation, contrary to regulatory guidelines and in contravention of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism, AML/CFT regulations of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) .

Dasukigate: Buhari’s associate released after 8 hours, PDP kicks

The People's Democratic Party, PDP has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC of double standards and selective treatment of suspects following the release of President Muhammadu Buhari's associate and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Brig Gen Jafaru Isa (retd) only about eight hours after his arrest.

The PDP said that releasing Jafaru Isa while its own members arrested for the same offense shows that Buhari is not fighting corruption but merely persecuting the leadership of the opposition.

In a statement signed by its Legal Adviser, Barr Victor Kwon, the PDP alleged that its spokesman, Olisa Metuh who willingly submitted himself to the EFCC has been detained since last week whereas the President's associate was released just after the EFCC Chairman visited Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

The statement reads:
“The release of Jafaru Isa, a known associate of the President and chieftain of the APC eight hours after his arrest while our spokesman remains in detention even when the two are being investigated over same allegation, clearly shows that the President Buhari-led APC government is not fighting corruption but using the much hyped crusade as a cover to persecute PDP leaders and decimate the opposition, a project the EFCC has clearly yielded itself as a willing tool.

“We have information of the marching order from the Presidency for the immediate release of the President’s associate and that his issue is one of the major part reasons for the repeated visits of the EFCC Chairman to the Presidential villa within the period of his arrest. Of course, there is nothing hidden under the sun.

“We ask, how can the EFCC now explain to the world that it is not corrupt and teleguided by the Federal Government to persecute PDP leaders? What happened to the illegal holding charge upon which it has detained the PDP spokesman beyond the limit stipulated by section 35(5a) of the constitution and in violation of his guaranteed personal liberty under the law?

“Are there now two separate sets of laws; one for PDP leaders and perceived foes of the President Buhari-led government which allows them to be detained beyond constitutional limits without being charged to court and another set, for associates of the President associates and APC leaders, which guarantees them a slap in the back and immunity from investigation and prosecution, and if arrested, an immediate release?

“Is it really true that the fund Jafaru Isa was alleged to have received from the former NSA was traced near the corridors of those who today bestride power in the country? Furthermore, can the Federal Government
and the APC now in all honesty face the world and announce that this administration is indeed waging war against corruption?

“Can the EFCC explain what has happened to several petitions by Nigerians on corruption issues against many APC leaders including those who as former governor looted funds belonging to their state? Are they now under immunity for the fact that they are in the APC and that most of the funds they looted where used to finance APC’s Presidential campaign?

“While we reiterate our support for any effort aimed eradicating corruption in our nation we stand our ground in demanding that the fight must be holistic, credible, within the limits provided by the laws irrespective of political affiliations.

“The PDP therefore restates its demand that the EFCC immediately releases its spokesman, Chief Olisa Metuh or charge him to court if they have any case against him. His continued detention without being charged to court is only indicative of the fact that the commission has not been able convince itself of enough evidence of guilt and is now lending itself as a willing instrument of persecution against Chief Metuh.

“The public will recall that the PDP is not given to frivolous claims as evidenced in many instances including our alert last year of a meeting between the Presidency, the then newly appointed INEC Chairman and top security officers just before the Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections.

“Finally, we state with every sense of responsibility that now that it is clear, with the release of Jafaru Isa eight hours after his arrest, that the continued detention of our spokesman is politically motivated, this party can no longer guarantee that it can rein in its members and supporters who have been exercising restrain since this particular arrest by the EFCC.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us and the laws are made for all of us and must be applied on its values and spirit without political considerations.”

Imagine this! Many Kaduna Children couldn't go to school because of N200 school fees

Since the administration of Nasir El-Rufai cancelled the payment of school fees in Kaduna State, pupil enrollment in schools has increased by 64 per cent.

According to Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Dr
Shehu Adamu-Danfulani who spoke with News Agency of Nigeria, NAN on Sunday, some parents could not afford the two hundred naira school fees before the coming of Gov Nasir El-Rufai.

"Until I was appointed a commissioner and until the declaration by Gov. El-Rufa’i, I never thought that some pupils could not go to school because some parents could not pay N200.

When we visited some primary schools, we met teaming parents that were now registering their children in schools, even as some of these pupils were older than the age of starting school.

Some of the parents complained that they brought the children to school late because they could not afford the school fees, but now that education is free, they could gladly bring them,’’ he said.

The commissioner emphasized that education is a priority to the state government which he said would welcome any organization willing to support education in the state.

He also said that 2226 teachers have been recruited to address the acute shortage of science teachers in the state while over 300 schools are undergoing renovation.

"Recently, we found out that there was an acute shortage of teachers in our secondary schools, particularly in core science subjects, which informed the government approval to recruit more hands.

"I have visited a school, where I was surprised to be informed that they didn’t have a physics teacher in the last five years, he said."
