Gunmen posing as policemen rob, rape youth corpers on Abuja highway
Passengers traveling along the Abuja - Kaduna highway on Sunday night were attacked by armed robbers who blocked the road posing as policemen.
Among the victims were female National Youth Service Corps members who were raped in addition to being dispossessed of their belongings.
One of the victims of the attack told News Agency of Nigeria, NAN that the mini bus in which they were traveling had left the Television Garage in Kaduna at about 8.30 pm only to run into the armed robbers a few kilometers after.
Other items lost to the robbers included cash, jewelry, laptop computers, mobile phones and foodstuff.
Lassa Fever Claims 40 Lives In 10 States - Health Minister
Minister of Health, Mr Isaac Adewole on Friday told newsmen in Abuja that an outbreak of lassa fever has killed 40 persons in 10 states across Nigeria.
“The total number (of suspected cases) reported is 86 and 40 deaths, with a mortality rate of 43.2 percent,” he told a news conference.
He said that of the 86 suspected cases, 22 have been confirmed as lassa fever while results are still being expected for the rest.
The affected states according to the Health Minister include
Bauchi, Nasarawa, Niger, Taraba, Kano, Plateau and Gombe in the North, while the remaining three are in the south — Rivers, Edo and Oyo states.
The lassa virus, is endemic in rodents in west Africa, and can be transmitted to humans through contact with food or household items contaminated with the animal's droppings or urine.

Security agents storm Abuja home of former Customs boss Abdullahi Dikko
Two bus loads of security operatives on Friday stormed the Abuja residence of ex-Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Dikko on Ahmed Musa Street, Jabi.
The combined team of mobile policemen and operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC reportedly arrived Dikko's house in two
Toyota Hiace buses marked RSH 555 AB and BWA 645 GA.
Vanguard reports that the former Customs Chief is out of the country, but his house is being searched with members of his family held hostage.
Sources said that the search on Dikko's house is not unconnected with his six years at the helm of Nigeria Customs Service.
Dikko was the Comptroller General of Customs from August 2009 till he resigned from the position in August 2015, three months into the Buhari administration.
For stopping him from using the bathhouse, this Nigerian stabbed his Ghanaian landlord to death.
