YEDC Announces Restoration Of Power Supply To Maiduguri

Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC says electric power supply has been restored to Maiduguri after months of blackout.

Senior Corporate Communications Officer of YEDC, Mr Kingsley Nkemneme in a statement issued to pressmen on Saturday, said that electricity has been restored to Maiduguri and adjoining towns.

The statement said that the company has restored power to Maiduguri, Gombi, Mubi etc and has been recording improvement in power supply despite security challenges.

It appealed to electricity consumers in the zone to pay their bills quickly to enable the company serve them better.

Air Chief Introduces Exercise For Combat Readiness

To ensure fitness for the ongoing counter-insurgency operations, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar has introduced a routine exercise schedule for officers and personnel of the Air Force.

This was disclosed by Air Vice Marshall James Gbum who addressed newsmen on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff at the end of a five-kilometers road walk in Abuja on Saturday.

He said : “As you know, we are fighting insurgency and it behoves on the military officers and personnel to be ready at any time they are called upon for any operation against the insurgents.

“ Therefore, the Chief of Air Staff has put in place this routine physical exercise to ensure that officers and men are healthy.

“ As military personnel, you can be called upon at any time; you have signed to work for 24 hours a day, that is why everybody must be ready and fit."

He reminded the participants that the five kilometers walk was to prepare them for the 10 kilometers walk jog which comes up later in the year.

Seven Die In Suicide Attack On Displaced Persons Camp

Emergency services have confirmed seven people dead in an attack on a displaced persons camp by two suspected female suicide bombers.

The attack on Malkohi IDP camp in Adamawa State which happened around 11am also left 13 persons including four NEMA officials injured.

LEADERSHIP WEEKEND's investigations showed that over 300 new IDPs from Sambisa forest and Madagali local government area were admitted into the facility the day before the bomb blast occurred.

Adamawa State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ahmed Sajoh who confirmed the attack also relayed Governor Muhammadu Umaru Bindow's directive for the state emergency management agency to pay the medical bills of the injured. The governor was in Kaduna State on an official visit when the incident happened.

Sajoh said that the state would work with other emergency management agencies to improve security at all the IDP camps in the state. He noted that security operatives were re-screening all the IDPs at the Malkohi camp.

“We have discussed with security agencies on how to fortify all the camps in the state and a re- screening of the IDPs is currently on going,” he declared.

Security Operatives Arrest 8 In Abuja Over Sallah Day Bombing Plan.

Operatives of the Defense Intelligence Agency, DIA, on Friday arrested eight persons over their alleged plan to bomb targets within the Abuja Federal Capital Territory on Sallah Day which comes up on September 24.

The suspects who are already undergoing interrogation are reported to have made useful statements.

Boko Haram terrorists had in the past bombed targets in Abuja which included the UN building at Asokoro, Police Force Headquarters, Emab Plaza in Wuse 2, This Day Newspapers in Jabi, and Nyanya Motor Park.
