IG Implores Public To Support Police With Info

The Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase wants Nigerians to provide relevant information to the police to help improve the country's security situation. He made the call at a dinner organized in his honor by his university course mates in Abuja.

They said they would use the opportunity provided by the moment to see how they could help one of their own succeed in his onerous assignment.

Mr Arase promised to tap into their wealth of experience to improve the operational efficiency of the police with particular emphasis on respect for the rights of citizens.

The dinner turned out to be a reunion for Political Science students of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, class of 1980.

Lagdo Dam: Cameroun Alerts Nigeria.

Cameroonian authorities have alerted Nigeria that they plan to release excess water from Lagdo dam in August. The activity is expected to cause flooding along the banks of River Benue.

The alert called for immediate evacuation of communities along the River Benue. In a similar situation in 2012, houses and farmlands along the river were submerged, causing several deaths and billions of naira in damages.

Alarm bells are also ringing from Niger Republic from where a large volume of water is expected to flow into the River Niger, posing similar threats

Buhari Thanks Special Olympics Team

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday showered praises on Nigeria's team to the just concluded Special Olympics held in Los Angeles, California.

He thanked the team for their diligence, dedication and remarkable achievement at the games. The contingent of 42 athletes brought home 71 medals, including 34 gold.

He congratulated the special athletes for their inspirational victories which he said captured his personal conviction that challenges can be overcome through dedication, hard work and perseverance.

According to a statement released on Monday by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu,
“President Buhari assures the athletes that the Federal Government and all Nigerians are very proud of their exhilarating and dominant performance at the Special Olympics in which they won medals in all featured events.“The President looks forward to receiving members of the team at the Presidential Villa to celebrate their brilliant victories in Los Angeles.”

Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Special Olympics is the world's largest sporting event for adults and children with mental disabilities.

those charged with corruption should face the law, even if they belong to the ruling party, APC.

Buhari had said during the campaigns that corruption would kill Nigeria if Nigerians didn't kill corruption.

War Against Corruption : Buhari Stops Multiple Accounts By Govt Agencies

All agencies of government, ministries and departments are henceforth to maintain a Treasury Single Account, TSA, with the Central Bank of Nigeria, except otherwise expressly approved. This is to promote transparency and ensure compliance with sections 80 and 162 of the 1999 constitution.

A statement released by Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande on Sunday contained the presidential directive. He explained that the new policy would end fragmented and multiple accounts which had led to leakages and loss of legitimate incomes that should have gone into the Federation Account.

The statement said that “henceforth , all receipts due to the Federal Government or any of its agencies must be paid into TSA or designated accounts maintained and operated in the Central Bank of Nigeria, except otherwise expressly approved."

Those affected by the presidential directive are the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Nigeria Maritime and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, National Civil Aviation Authority, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Department of Petroleum Resources, Nigerian Ports Authority and Corporate Affairs Commission among others.
