Cameroonian authorities have alerted Nigeria that they plan to release excess water from Lagdo dam in August. The activity is expected to cause flooding along the banks of River Benue.
The alert called for immediate evacuation of communities along the River Benue. In a similar situation in 2012, houses and farmlands along the river were submerged, causing several deaths and billions of naira in damages.
Alarm bells are also ringing from Niger Republic from where a large volume of water is expected to flow into the River Niger, posing similar threats
