Senate demands investigation of police killing of youth corper in Abuja

The Senate on Thursday demanded investigations into the fatal shooting of a National Youth Service Corps member, Miss Linda Angela Igwetu by a police officer on Wednesday.

Abujacitynews gathered that the deceased was shot around 3am on Wednesday by a policeman identified as Benjamin around a checkpoint near Ceddi Plaza in the Central Business District of Abuja.

She was said to be returning from a hangout with friends when the tragic shooting occurred.

A source also said that she would have participated in Thursday's passing out parade of the NYSC in Abuja.

The issue was raised on the floor of the Senate by Senator Atai Aidoko, citing Orders 42 and 52.

The Senate observed a one-minute silence in honour of the slain youth corper while mandating its Committee on Youth and Sports to investigate the circumstances of her death.

The Committee on Health was also directed to investigate the alleged refusal of Garki Hospital  to treat the victim without a police report.

The Committee on Police Affairs was asked to look into the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.

The committees are to submit their reports within  two weeks .
