Two armed robbery suspects were on Sunday, arrested by the Niger State police command in Wawa village in the Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
The duo of Jariri Chede, 25 and Janya Shehu, 20 had just robbed one Sunday Ishaya of N70,000 cash and a Tecno smartphone worth N73,000 when they were arrested by the police.
Other items they dispossessed the victim of were two cartons of dry gin worth N9,000 and a box of tobacco snuff worth N2,000.
Shehu who recently got married reportedly confessed that he took to armed robbery because he wanted his wife to lack nothing.
“I don’t want my wife to lack anything. I can do anything to please her . I promised her that I will do everything to please her no matter what, not until I found myself in police net .
“I have no regrets because I voluntarily, willingly committed the crime so it doesn ’t make sense to say I'm regretting. It is between me and Allah ,” he said .
He added that he knew his wife and parents would feel bad for what he did.
“My wife definitely will feel bad but I committed the crime so let me go in for it. As for my parents, I have disappointed them and I pray they forgive me.”
Niger State Police Public Relations Officer Muhammad Abubakar said that the suspects would be arraigned in court, adding that a member of the 3-man gang was still on the run.
