Rattled by renewed outbreak of killings in Southern Kaduna despite the recent security measures to achieve sustainable peace in the area, the Acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has summoned the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris to Aso Rock Villa, Abuja for briefing.
A presidency source said that the Federal Government was highly disturbed by last week's killing of 21 people in Southern Kaduna.
Idris was expected to brief Osinbajo on what needed to be done to halt the continued sectarian killings in the area.
Meanwhile the Presidency is reported to have ordered additional security measures in the area, including the immediate deployment of over 15,000 policemen.
“The immediate outcome of the IGP’s meeting with the Acting President was the intensification and adoption of a set of additional security measures that would help contain the situation.
“Besides deploying over 15,000 policemen to the area, It was learnt that the police high command has now concluded arrangements for the establishment of a new Police Squadron in Kafanchan, Kaduna State as part of broad measures adopted to curb the violence.
“A total of 18 Armored Personnel Carriers, and a unit of Belarus-trained police Special Forces have been deployed to Southern Kaduna.
“The police has also increased helicopter surveillance in the entire area to prevent a recurrence of violence in the communities.
“Besides, the police have so far arrested 38 suspects linked to the violence while 29 firearms were recently recovered,” said the source.
