NPS confirms jailbreak at Kuje Prison

The Nigeria Prisons Service, NPS has confirmed that some inmates attempted to escape from Kuje Prison on Friday night.

The Public Relations Officer of the NPS, Mr Francis Enobore who spoke with Punch could however not confirm how many inmates escaped if any.

Enobore said that the incident had nothing to do with the detained leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, Mr Francis Okah.

“Yes there was an incident yesterday, but Okah was not involved.

“It is not true, Charles Okah is still in custody. I have been in touch with our men in the prison facility and there is nothing like that [Okah escaping].

“The Comptoller of prisons has ordered an investigation and that is going on. We want to know if anybody escaped and if yes, what are their identities,” he said.
