Painter to spend two months in jail for stealing fridge in Abuja

A Grade 1 Area Court Judge in Lugbe, Abuja on Friday convicted 26 year-old painter, John Tanko on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft, having found him guilty of stealing a refrigerator and a microwave oven.

The presiding judge Garba Ogbede sentenced the convict to two months imprisonment with an option of N4000.

He also ordered that the stolen items be returned to the owner.

The prosecutor, Ndidi Ukaoha had earlier told the court that the convict broke into one Friday Ubani's shop at Aleita village at about 3.30 am and carted away a table top refrigerator and a microwave oven valued at N53,000.

He said that Tanko's actions were in contravention of Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code
