The Director of Public Relations of the Nigeria Air Force, Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, has said that the military has deployed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, also known as drones in its fight against Boko Haram.
He told Channels Television in an interview that drones have helped the Air Force to understand the movement pattern of the terrorists and determine how to counter them.
"UAVs have the capability to be airborne for up to eleven hours and they are quite cheap to maintain. So, we have been able to employ the UAV to a great extent to carry out reconnaissance and surveillance basically for intelligence gathering on the activities of the Boko Haram,” he said.
Famuyiwa also said that the Air Force has identified the possible location of the Chibok girls in Sambisa forest.
He said that the Air Force's latest bombings at Sambisa have avoided areas where the girls are suspected to be located.
“We have no fears that the girls are not there because that particular location has been under surveillance for quite a while and we suspected maybe it's a kind of ammunition depot or maybe a workshop that they are using as their logistics place," he said.
