How boyfriend killed Unijos student over Valentine's Day outing

An undergraduate of the University of Jos was last Monday, despatched to an untimely death by her boyfriend for turning down his request for a Valentine's Day outing.

The victim identified as Miss Nanchin Zakariah was a student in the Department of Psychology.

According to a source close to the late Miss Zakariah, she was strangled to death by Badung David Dele on Monday,the day after Valentine at her Angwa Rukuba apartment.

Following an earlier misunderstanding, Badung had requested for a date on Valentine's Day ostensibly to settle their differences, but an unimpressed Nanchin turned down the request.

An enraged Badung reportedly stormed Nanchin's apartment the following morning demanding an explanation.

He was said to have grabbed her by the throat, strangling her in the process.

After committing the crime, Badung was said to have told a neighbor who saw him in the apartment that he was going to get drugs for the victim. He left his mobile number with the neighbor with the instruction to contact him in the event of an emergency.

Smelling a rat, the neighbor who identified herself as Mama Joy ran into the room only to be confronted with Nanchin's lifeless body.

“I called her name  but she did  not respond. I moved  closer and I discovered that she was  dead.

“I ran out,  screaming  to alert the  people around. I was shocked that the boy managed to kill this girl without a gun. There was no blood on her body,” she said.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Abu Emmanuel said that the suspect was apprehended the same day and has “confessed to have committed the crime.”

He said that his Command is  making "necessary arrangements to arraign him in court soon. The Police Commissioner is using this opportunity to caution ladies to be careful who they date. Some of these boys are criminals and you might ignorantly fall into their hands like this girl.”

Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been transferred from Bingham University Teaching Hospital, BUTH to the Jos University Teaching Hospital JUTH for postmortem examination.
