APGA, PDP supporters clash over billboard in Abuja.

Supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP nearly came to blows on Friday over a campaign billboard in Kuje Area Council.

The clash came amid campaigns for the forthcoming local government elections to be held on March 19.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that trouble started when some former members of PDP who had decamped to APGA attempt to remove the image of the PDP candidate and current Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Shaban Tete for replacement with the image of the APGA candidate Haruna Yerima.

It took the timely intervention of the Kuje Division of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command to calm frayed nerves and prevent the situation from escalating.

According to Adamu Dogo, PDP Youth Leader in Kuje, the APGA supporters had no reason to remove the picture on the billboard, even though they erected it while they were in PDP.

“The billboard was mounted by PDP and the APGA people have no right to remove the image of our candidate, and put their own.

“Even if the decamped supporters of PDP were among those that mounted the billboard, the finance came from the ruling party, PDP.

“They should wait till after March 19 after the people have decided who they want as Kuje Chairman,’’ he said.
