The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu says that President Buhari is yet to take a decision on whether the use of hijab should be banned in the country.
He described as “insinuations and rumours,” reports making the rounds that the long veil worn by Muslim women has been banned.
Shehu said that the Buhari administration will always respect to right of Muslims to protect their modesty and religious freedom.
He added that despite Boko Haram’s abuse of the hijab by using it for terrorist activities, Buhari will only take a decision on the matter after due consultations with all stakeholders.
“Everything will be done to balance national security requirements with the rights and obligations of citizens under their religions as protected by the constitution,” he told journalists in Abuja on Friday.
