Prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh (Dr.) Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has accused the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, aka, Shi’ites , Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky of running a parallel government in parts of the North in the last 40 years.
Sheikh Gumi told newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday that the Shi’ites have been ‘’operating a state within a state’’ by conducting military trainings and producing cadets and soldiers.
‘’The Islamic Movement of Nigeria does not recognise the corporate entity of Nigeria. The group is not registered. They operate above the law and they get direct foreign aid,’’ he said.
Sheikh Gumi recalled how late President Umar Musa Yar'Adua had told him of massive importation of arms by the Shiites and how Iran had been fingered in supplying arms to them.
He also recalled writing Zakzaky last year to warn him of the dangers of blocking the roads during their yearly
Ar’baeen trek, where his followers travelled on foot from different parts of the country to Zaria.
He noted that "unnecessary blocking of roads and shouting slogans on the way increases the tension in the north.,’ adding that the recent clashes between soldiers and Shiites in Zaria was ‘’a divine intervention to prevent us from a catastrophe like that of Boko Haram. It came sudden and powerful to eradicate and uproot any plan that they must have been having to harm the society.’’
