A huge number of people belonging to the Shiite Islamic sect gathered in Abuja on Wednesday, demanding the release of their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky who according to the Army is in its protective custody.
The Shiites told a news conference in Abuja that El-Zakzaky sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter with the Army over the weekend and requires urgent medical attention.
The leader of the Shiites in Adamawa State, Abdulrahman Abubakar said El-Zakyzaky had informed them on phone that he had been shot in the eyes and other places and was not sure he would make it .
According to the Secretary, Media Forum of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Abdulmumin Giwa the attacks took place in three different locations and lasted more than 27 hours.
“The soldiers came back two hours after the COAS had passed to unleash the terror. There is also an alternate route he could have passed,” he said.
