Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai escaped unhurt on Saturday when gunmen alleged to be members of the Sunni Islamic sect engaged his convoy in a shootout.
Seven people reportedly lost their lives in the gun battle.
The cause of the fight is however not yet known.
