Two young hijab-wearing female suicide bombers on Wednesday killed 15 persons at the busy GSM mobile phone market in the Nasarawa area of Kano City. One of the attackers is said to be about 11 years old.
Kano State Police Command spokesman, Musa Magaji Majia spoke to AFP after the attacks.
“A minibus carrying some women came to the Farm Centre GSM market and dropped off one girl aged about 11 and another aged about 18, both wore the hijab.
“One went inside the market, the other stayed outside then they exploded, killing themselves and others nearby.
“The victims were taken to hospital and it was later confirmed that 15 people died, not including the suicide bombers,” he said.
According to Majia, the police have blocked all exits and entries into Kano City as the manhunt for the VW Sharan mini van that dropped the suicide bombers at the market continues. Four other women were said to be in the vehicle.
