Following the failure of a clear winner to emerge in the Kogi State governorship election held on Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared the contest inconclusive.
After the collation of results on Sunday, the two leading contenders, Prince Abubakar Audu of the All Progressives Congress, APC and incumbent governor Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP polled 240,867 and 199,514 votes respectively.
Owing to violence and other factors, voting was canceled in several polling units with registered voters totalling about 49,900.
Given that the APC candidate led his PDP rival with a margin of 41,353 votes which is less than the votes accruable from the areas where elections did not take place, INEC declared the election inconclusive in accordance with the electoral law.
