The government of the United States of America on Monday joined the families of the missing Chibok girls to mark the 500th day of the grim event. It commiserated with the families while assuring of its commitment to the girls' rescue from Boko Haram insurgents.
The militants invaded the hostel of Chibok High School at night in April 2014 and kidnapped 276 girls preparing for their final exams. 50 of the girls later escaped, living about 219 still in captivity.
It is feared that the terrorist group may have resorted to using some of the kidnapped girls for suicide bombings while marrying off some to their commanders.
The United States government which relayed its message through Department of State spokesman, Mr John Kirby restated its commitment to help in the fight against terror through bilateral support and assistance to the Multi-National Joint Task Force, MNJTF as well as logistics, training, equipment and counter terrorism assistance programs.
