In his second week as governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai went to a government-owned hospital in the early hours of the morning, disguised as someone who had brought a patient in critical condition.
The nurses were sleeping and the doctor on duty was absent. He was soundly sleeping in his home. After much resistance, the nurses reluctantly gave the doctor's phone number to El-Rufai whom they didn't realize was the state governor.
Governor El-Rufai put a call through to the doctor but got insulted by the doctor who didn't bother to come to attend to the supposed patient. A fuming El-Rufai left the hospital disappointed.
The offending doctor went to work the next day only to find out that the person he insulted the previous day was the state governor. By then, it was too late to make amends as the governor had already approved his dismissal from the job.
