Ohuhu Women's Welfare Union will be marking the Ohuhu Cultural Day in Abuja on Saturday the 15th of August 2015.
According to Mrs Chinyere Iroele, President of Ohuhu Women's Welfare Union in Abuja and Mrs Ezinne Okey Uchendu, also of the Abuja branch of the union, the event is intended to celebrate Igbo language and culture.
The union said that it has observed that most Igbo people raised outside Igbo land cannot cook Igbo food. To address this situation, a variety of Igbo cuisine will be on display while their methods of preparation will be demonstrated.
The event which kicks off by 11 am at Education Resource Center, Wuse Zone 7 will feature teachings on Igbo culture with emphasis on the Ohuhu clan, especially how they prepare and eat their food.
Highlights of the event will include drama and Igbo rap music.
Igbo cuisine that will be showcased include Okra soup, ofe achara, akpu, mkpurusu, awa, okazi soup among others. Guests will also see how the Igbo eat their local foods.
Ohuhu is a clan in Umuahia North Local Council of Abia State. The state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu is expected to be among the dignitaries at the event.
