It was a case of almost there for 25 years old John Okafor who was ferrying a cash of 48,450,000 naira from Onitsha, South East Nigeria to Abuja last Monday. He was nabbed in a commercial bus at the Abaji end of the Abuja Lokoja expressway by anti narcotics operatives on routine patrol.
However, Okafor denied ownership of the money. He said that he was on an errand for an Onitsha-based Bureau de change to purchase US dollars in Abuja.
“I work for a bureau de change in Onitsha. I was asked to purchase dollars at the foreign exchange market in Abuja with the money. When we got to Abaji, our vehicle was searched and the money was found. That is all I know, " he said.
According to Mrs Chinyere Obijuru, NDLEA Commander in FCT, Mr Okafor who also had 86,500 on him would be handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution.
